PART-TIME WORK

» Concept

Part-time work is deemed to be that which corresponds to a normal period of weekly work lower than that which is practised on a full-time basis

» The contract to be concluded shall set out the normal period of daily and weekly work with comparative reference to the full-time work

Mode of performance

The part-time public employee may change to work, on a full-time basis, or the opposite on a permanent basis or by a determined period, by means of agreement in writing with the public employer entity

It may be performed in all or some week days, without prejudice to the weekly rest

The number of working days shall be fixed by agreement with the public employer entity

If the normal period of work shall not be equal in each week, the respective average is considered in the applicable reference period of time

Resumption of full-time work

The part-time public employee has the right to resume the performance of work on a full-time basis, after having ended the period that has been determined

Limits to the performance of supplementary work

The part-time public employee may perform extraordinary work up to eighty hours per year

» Compensation

Basic compensation

The public employee is entitled, in the proportion of the respective normal period of weekly work, to the basic compensation provided for in the law

Compensation supplements

Compensation supplements that are due as well as the performance bonuses are calculated in proportion to the respective normal period of weekly work

Holiday and Christmas allowances

The public employee is entitled to Holiday and Christmas allowances corresponding to the compensation received

» Meal allowance

In the case of the performance of daily work be equal or higher than the half of the daily duration of full time work, the public employee is entitled to a meal allowance in full; when performed by a lower period, such allowance shall be calculated in proportion to the respective normal period of weekly work
