» Calculation and duration of benefits

Unemployment allowance:

» The daily amount is equal to 65% of the reference compensation (RC), and shall not be higher than its gross value (from the deduction to the Public Employee General Pension Scheme – Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) – or for social security institutions-SSI – and the personal income tax rate)

It is calculated on the basis of 30 days per month

» The reference compensation (RC) shall correspond to the daily average compensations defined by R/360, in which R represents the total compensations received and that are the base discount in the 12 calendar months that precede the 2nd former to the dismissal date. For the determination of the RC the Holiday and Christmas allowances paid in the reference period are taken into consideration

» The period to grant the allowance varies according to the beneficiary’s age and the period of fulfilment of functions immediately former to the unemployment date

» Initial or subsequent unemployment social allowance

» The daily amount shall be indexed to the value of the Social Support Indexation (SSI) and calculated on the basis of 30 days per month, as per the following terms:

- 100% for the beneficiaries with household

- 80% for isolated beneficiaries

» The period for granting the initial allowance shall be determined under the same terms of the unemployment allowance

» The allowance granted subsequently to the unemployment allowance has a duration of half the period of this last one, taking into account the beneficiary’s age on the date in which its grant has terminated

» Equivalence to the entry of contributions

» The payment periods of the unemployment allowance and the initial unemployment social allowance give rise to the registration of compensations by the CGA or by SSI, by equivalence to the entry of contributions, for the RC value that served as a basis for allowance calculation. During the payment periods of the unemployment social allowance subsequent to the unemployment allowance, the compensation’s value registered shall correspond to the value of the unemployment allowance received

» The referred to periods are also equivalent to the fulfilment of functions for the purposes of the maternity, paternity and adoption eventuality (parenthood), within the framework of the convergent social protection scheme
